Splatoon 3 has announced a new Splatfest event coming in August, which will feature a food-themed battle for players. Fans can register early to join teams led by the popular idols Shiver, Frye, and Big Man, which will provide exclusive abilities to those who sign up ahead of time. This announcement has sparked speculation among the community about the potential for a final "mega" Splatfest event that could have a significant impact on the future direction of the Splatoon series, as the timing and details of this August Splatfest have fans wondering if it could mark a pivotal moment for the franchise.
Hot on the heels of the last Splatfest, Splatoon 3 has announced a new Splatfest is arriving in August. The theme will pit food fans against each other as Splatoon 3 players battle in turf wars to determine who the victorious team will be.
Splatoon 3, like its predecessors, holds Splatfests regularly. The unique twist on turf wars asks players to pick one of three teams, each led by an idol of Deep Cut, and then battle it out over the weekend to determine which will win. Splatoon 3 just wrapped up the Summer Nights Splatfest, which asked players which summer getaway they'd most want to have to themselves; a palace, theme park, or a beach.
The next Splatfest will start on August 9 and will run through August 11 2024. The theme this time around asks players which starchy food they could eat everyday: bread, rice, or pasta. The teams are led by Shiver, Frye, and Big Man, respectively. Players can expect to be able to register for their chosen team one week before the event starts. It's recommended to register as soon as possible, as players can begin playing turf wars in their Splatfest shirt and gain abilities for it before the real fights begin.
Players have been convinced that support for Splatoon 3 is winding down. Initial support for the game was only promised for two years, and the most recent in-game catalog lets players gain the "Thanks for playing" set of titles, which sounds like the development team's way of thanking the fanbase before sunsetting the title. However, the arrival of this new Splatfest is interesting, and likely confirms that there will be at least one more Splatfest following it.
Splatoon 3 will presumably follow the trend of its predecessors of having one final "mega" Splatfest that will change the course of the series to come. The original Splatoon pitted Callie and Marie against each other, leading to Splatoon 2's story mode. Splatoon 2, on the other hand, saw Chaos and Order battle it out, which just recently saw its culmination in the Side Order DLC for Splatoon 3. At this point, it's hard to tell what the theme will be for the final Splatoon 3 Splatfest, and how it will impact the series' future. However, it seems extremely unlikely that the game will close out on a simple food question, so if the last Splatfest is coming soon, it may drop in September, which would also mark the two-year anniversary of the game.
