A New Venture from Nerd Ninjas

Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon is being developed by Nerd Ninjas, a studio based in Spokane, Washington, that has primarily focused on collaborative projects in the past. The company has contributed to the development of Pokémon GO and partnered with Niantic on Peridot Beyond, an augmented reality virtual pet experience designed for Snap's Spectacles smart glasses.

What to Expect from Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon

With the announcement of Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon, Nerd Ninjas is introducing its first original intellectual property. True to its title, this virtual reality game features a piñata-centric theme, set in a "party-apocalyptic world" where festive, candy-filled decorations come to life and wreak havoc. Players will be challenged to thwart these mischievous piñatas, creating a whirlwind of chaos in the process. The game is slated for an early 2025 release and will be available for Meta Quest and SteamVR headsets.

Gameplay Features and Mechanics

Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon seamlessly blends elements of roguelites with first-person shooters. At launch, players will navigate through six distinctive levels and face off against over 18 varieties of piñata enemies armed with more than a dozen different weapons. These weapons can be upgraded and dual-wielded, enhancing their destructive capabilities. A key aspect of gameplay will involve experimenting with and optimizing equipment loadouts, adding depth to the roguelite experience.

In addition to solo challenges, players can team up with up to three friends for a cooperative adventure. Each stage not only pits players against waves of anthropomorphic candy-filled decorations but also features a powerful boss that must be defeated. Nate Chatellier, founder of Nerd Ninjas, describes Rogue Piñatas: VRmageddon as a "stupidly fun VR experience that will have players hooked from the first swing." The game is being developed in collaboration with Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook.
