The director of Lies of P, one of the standout Soulslike games of 2023, has shared exciting details about its upcoming enhanced version for the PlayStation 5 Pro. This title has captivated fans and is often hailed as the best Soulslike not developed by FromSoftware. Neowiz, the studio behind the game, has also confirmed that they are working on downloadable content (DLC) and a sequel.
Last month, Sony introduced the PlayStation 5 Pro, a mid-generation upgrade set to launch on November 7, priced at $699—$200 more than the original PS5 that debuted four years ago. This new console will feature 2 TB of storage, an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing capabilities, and other enhancements.
Despite concerns about the console's hefty price tag, several major titles have already announced PS5 Pro enhancements. Games like Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil Village, the Resident Evil 4 remake, Dragon's Dogma 2, God of War: Ragnarok, and Gran Turismo 7 will all benefit from the upgrade. Even upcoming releases such as Assassin's Creed Shadows and Dragon Age: The Veilguard will feature enhancements on launch day.
Neowiz has confirmed that Lies of P will also receive specific enhancements for the PS5 Pro. In an interview with Eurogamer, Jiwon Choi, the game’s director, revealed that the performance mode will allow the game to run at 4K resolution. Meanwhile, the Quality mode will provide a smoother frame rate. "The precision and fluidity required for this genre are essential to the combat experience. Thanks to the PS5 Pro's remarkable performance, we can maintain an optimal frame rate at 4K, ensuring that gameplay is as smooth and responsive as it should be," Choi explained.
This news is sure to excite Lies of P fans on consoles, but Choi did not disclose specific performance metrics. As a result, it remains unclear whether the game’s Performance mode will achieve 4K at 60 FPS or even 120 FPS. While reaching 120 FPS would be impressive, such high frame rates are typically found in competitive FPS games. The exact frame rate for the Quality mode is also yet to be revealed, though it is unlikely to reach 60 FPS. More details about these enhancements are expected to emerge as the November launch of the PS5 Pro approaches.
Originally, the DLC for Lies of P was slated for a late 2024 release, but it now appears to have been postponed until next year. Additionally, the sequel teased at the end of the game is rumored to include an open-world environment. Fans are eagerly awaiting more information about both the DLC and the sequel in the near future.
